The company’s founder was only thirteen when he began making cheese on his own. He used his earnings to pay for tuition at a Swiss dairy school. In 1908, Josef Rupp became the first person in Austria to produce Emmental cheese the Swiss way. By the 1920s he was already exporting handmade cheese wheels to Italy, Belgium, North Africa and America. The introduction of processed cheese manufacturing in the 1930s led to the family firm’s expansion and increased exports.Nowadays, Rupp signs a wide range of cheese products, ensures sustainable interaction with the environment, and complies with the strictest hygiene protocols, promoting food safety and consumer protection.
Its sought-after products are made from pure milk of free-range animals, come with quality certification stamps by Austrian accreditation bodies, while some of its specialties bear the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) mark.
